NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA SPORT CLIMBING AREAS

The conglomerate and sandstone walls of Northeast Pennsylvania are chock full of great sport climbing areas. From Frackville to Scranton and everywhere in between, some of the most underrated sport routes exist on conglomerate crags simikar to the Gunks. The Gunks ridge dips into Pennsylvania near Lake Wallenpaupak and cimbing areas with abundant routes can be found throughought the region.

 

At least a dozen climbing areas with well protected sport roues make NEPA a huge resource for rock climbers. The bouldering is excellent as well.  Many of the climbing areas in this part of Pennsylvania have been off the radar but nearly every area has good access, short approaches, and 4-star quality rock to climb on.
